Floor tiling FAQ's

Do you have any references I can look at?

Of course, we have many thrilled customers throughout Sheffield and South Yorkshire. If you visit our reviews page you will be able to read some of our most recent recommendations. If you would like more references, please just ask.

How many floor tiles do I need?

To work out the amount of floor tiles you will need to:

  1. Start by measuring the length and width of the room.
  2. Multiply the length and width measurements you obtained, which will give you the total square meterage of the wall and/or floor areas.
  3. Factor in cuts and waste by multiplying the square meterage you have by 15%. This will be the actual amount of square meterage you should buy tiles for.
  4. Once you know the square meterage work out the number of tile boxes you will need by dividing the total square meterage required by the total square meterage of the tiles in the box.

How do I choose the right grout for my tile floors?

Tile grout comes in a very wide array of colours and tones and choosing a grout colour is crucial to your overall look. The colour you choose really does come down to personal preference. Neutral colours are often a safe bet but you could also consider matching your grout to your tile colour to make the grout lines less pronounced or a contrasting colour to draw attention to your laying pattern.

Many tile suppliers now offer grout sample sticks so you can take them home and test with your chosen tiles.

Can you tile over any floor surface?

We can tile over any floor surface so long as it has been cleaned and levelled. If your flooring is uneven don’t worry, we can also take care of the levelling process to ensure a perfect finish.

Can I walk on my tile floor and mop it immediately after installation?

We know you will be keen to start using your room again once your tiles have been installed but it is important to give the adhesive, mortar and grout used ample time to set and cure before you start to walk on the flooring.

Drying times vary depending on the products used. As part of the installation process we will let you know how much time you will need to allow before using the room again.
